Who is Hu?
Hi, I’m Rachel Hu, an industrial designer who enjoys discovering the stories behind people, objects, cultures, and everyday experiences. I’m naturally curious, so I often begin a project by asking questions, exploring unfamiliar ideas, and looking for the small details that can make a design feel meaningful.
I love working with my hands and learning through sketching, prototyping, and making things real. My Chinese heritage and interest in Asian design often shape the way I think about craft, form, and storytelling. Above all, I hope to create thoughtful objects that serve a purpose while also giving people something to connect with. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me and check out my work!

Why the orange?
Growing up, love in my family was often shown through actions rather than words. My father would peel an orange for me without asking if I wanted one, simply because he cared. Now, I find myself doing the same for my grandmother. Those small acts taught me that care begins with noticing what someone needs before they have to ask. That idea has shaped the way I approach design. I design best when I care deeply about the person, story, or experience behind what I am making. For me, to design is to notice, and to notice is to care.
